Pipeline Mastic Removal

 In Blog, Newsroom

Pipeline mastic removal is a specialty of ARC Abatement in addition to our work on commercial buildings and property.

Did you know asbestos was a proven, effective, and durable means of protecting steel pipe from corrosion and the elements? According to the Pipeline & Gas Journal, pipelines built before the clean air act of 1965, asbestos might be up to 50 percent of the felt wrapping around a length of line pipe with some tar type outer wrapping. This means there is as much as 25 percent asbestos in the complete coating of pipeline laid between 1920 and 1980.

ARC has substantial experience and ongoing projects within the pipeline industry. IMG_8101Specifically, we recently performed removal of mastic coating for Progressive Pipeline as part of their abandonment program. The job started in July 2017 and is ongoing. This LNG pipeline removal has covered to date over 225 linear feet. It has also led to other jobs that will include removal of mastic from the pipeline that extends under the Trinity and Red River.
